Healthy Altitudes

Happy and Healthy Altitudes to you. Today’s weekly reboot is about three things. One is to strategize how you’re going to reach your goals. Two is about how you’re going to prioritize your goals. And the third one, maybe the most important one, is how you’re going to urgentize your goal. I thought about this today because I’m here at a really cool location. I don’t know if you can guess by the background. I am at Empower Field, and I’m here because it’s not only a really beautiful place with a gorgeous sky and a pretty Denver skyline, but I’m going to be running the Colfax Marathon. As an average dad doing it as a relay, I first had to prioritize making the time to do this as a relay with some friends. I also had to strategize how I was going to fit it into my day. As I was doing that, I started to think to myself, what do I love about racing? It helps me remember to urgentize. I’m going to make that my word for the day and for this weekly reboot: urgentize. Not everything is urgent, but maintaining a sense of urgency is important, and that’s urgent. That’s something to do now. Your goal, whether it is to lose weight, be better at a sport, or better at your job, is dependent on maintaining urgency. What I love about races is that you have to maintain an urgency to get to the finish. You have to finish strong. That’s what it’s always about. If you’re an athlete playing a game at Mile High at Empower Field, you have to play urgently. You have to work on getting to that end zone. There’s no laziness. You can’t just sit around and say, “Well, what am I going to do today?” You have to prioritize what’s more urgent today out of the things that are taking up your time. That applies to health and fitness. Health will always have some things that are more urgent than others. So, what you need to do is pick on a scale from 1 to 10. One is less urgent, and ten is more urgent. What are those things that are more urgent for you this week that you’re really going to work on? Urgentize. What is important in your workout? If you only have 15 minutes, get moving, go hard, and make it happen quickly. Make that workout urgent. Don’t check your phone in the middle of your workout. Make that workout urgent. Pretend you’re running to that finish line. That finish line is your life. That finish line is getting to the end healthy with those around you. Not being a burden for them, but taking care of yourself so that you can effectively take care of those around you. Urgentize your health, however that is. Not everything has equal urgency, but urgentize your health. Being active, eating well, and staying happy should be part of all of that. Have a great week. Reboot and follow my YouTube channel because I’m going to have a couple more weekly reboots from the next three weeks of fun races that this average dad is going to do. Just another average dad doing average things. I hope that I can motivate you to get out and challenge yourself to be just a regular parent doing things to be healthier and happier for yourself, your family, and most importantly, your life.
