Oklahoma- Alfalfa Bill Cookies And A Warm Reception

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

Today was a good day. We got to the Oklahoma ride start to be greeted by Fran Morrell who is the ride director. It was awesome- she even brought some of the special Alfalfa Bill energy cookies. I even left Scot some of them.

So after a few minor adjustments on the bike, I was off to ride. The ride was great- it was a rolling course with 3 schools to stop at. The schools took my mind off the 5000 feet of elevation and the kids inspired me to keep on sending out a healthy message to ride your bike and be active to prevent disease later in life. I stopped at the Wapanucka School and the Coleman schools. I had an awesome reception of the entire Wapanucka school lined up to give me 300 high fives. (pictures to come)

Then I was on to Coleman schools where I got to meet with a couple of elementary school students and relay the message of being physically active, while they were being active. The teachers were awesome! Thank you all for your hospitality.

So then after the schools I completed the loop chock full’ o’ roling hills and nice terrain. I rode past Lake Texahoma and rode past Fort Witchita. It was a beautiful ride. Then as I finished up and my legs were really starting to feel sore and the heat (95 degrees) was getting to me- Scot came by with the van and I drafted with him for a bit.

Here’s the funny part. I got back to town and Scot said head straight to the newspaper. I rode down there and was greeted by the police. We were running late because the ride took a lot longer than I thought it would. We had a couple people to meet with at the end of te ride.

They said that the mayor and members of the chamber were on the other side of town waiting to say hello. I felt so honored and it was so nice to get to be in such an awesome town. The officer said- follow me- he flipped his lights on and we were off to meet the people from the chamber and the mayor. It was an awesome time in Oklahoma! I didn’t want to leave.

I also want to say a special thanks to Karina and Charlotte for helping us set up a place to stay at the Holiday Inn again.

 Pictures to come.

Gotta head out for ride 36- Kansas!

Big Smiles-

Gary G
