Iowa

Welcome to Iowa-

“You’re in the Mid-West now, boy”….

As a gentleman said at the gas station we started the ride at today. We were getting ready for the cold (35 degrees), well cooler than expected. I was putting on my face mask and extra pair of pants. I looked like Jesse James robbing a bank. So as we were joking about this- the guy at the gas station said robberies don’t occur too often these days because there are a lot of deep ditches in the corn fields, and they can definately hold bank robbers. We had our laugh and it was time to get on our way.

After a good night’s rest that was set up by Charlotte at the Holiday Inn Express, I was ready to tackle the flat roads of Iowa. I had my fastest ride yet. It was about 4 hours to get this one done. It was good because we had a nine hour drive to Missouri for ride 30. The ride was flat, fast, and filled with corn. I mean corny jokes and corn fields. Even corn dogs. Scot had a corn dog at a gas station and then proceeded to tell corny jokes for 20 minutes later…. I guess, it’s true “you are what you eat.” We even got to go to Marathon, a town in Iowa… looks like a great place to run… I’ll have to get back there sometime.

It was a great ride in Iowa and we owe a huge thanks to the staff at the Holiday Inn Express. The hotel manager, Keri, was awesome and very gracious to welcome us with open arms and to share how cancer affected her staff. She was also excited to raise awareness among her staff in the months to come. Each month they will raise awareness about a different type of cancer by wearing special pins. I am looking forward to hearing more about this and keeping in contact.

We have met so many generous people and we are very grateful.

So then we drove- we drove and drove, I drove Scot drove, I drove, then we even found some strangers to drive (just kidding)… it took a while to get here. Now 9 hours later, we are safely in Missouri… ready to hit ride 30…. 3000 miles- here we come!

Get ‘er done!
